The impact on financial crime of partnerships between banks and law enforcement (PPPs) has been relatively small and is insufficient to handle today’s financial crime challenges, many AML experts argue.

Karen Baxter, Managing Director Intelligence Strategy, UK Finance
Karen joined UK Finance in October 2020. Prior to this she was a police officer for nearly 29 years, starting her career in the Royal Ulster Constabulary and retiring from the City of London Police. Her final policing role was Commander and National Coordinator for Economic Crime across UK Policing. Karen’s responsibilities included Complex Fraud, Money Laundering, Overseas Anti-Corruption, Intellectual Property and the Economic Crime Academy.

Dr Liliya Gelemerova, Head of UK Financial Security, Credit Agricole – Corporate and Investment Bank, London
With over 20 years of experience, Liliya has worked across the financial crime space in many different roles and capacity. Her experience includes several London-based investigative consultancy firms and the Royal Bank of Canada in London. At Commerzbank London she managed the AML Advisory and EDD Team until her appointment as head of Transactions Monitoring and Investigations/UK FIU and deputy MLRO. At the end of 2020 she joined Credit Agricole – Corporate and Investment Bank as Head of UK Financial Security. She holds a doctorate in AML policies from Tilburg University in the Netherlands and gives lectures at the University of Manchester.

David Nicholson, Product Manager Analytics, BAE Systems Applied Intelligence
David is responsible the strategy and vision for the analytics product at BAE Systems Applied Intelligence, This work, enables financial institutions to improve detection effectiveness and efficiency through the application of advanced analytics, in particular optimisation, machine learning, and artificial intelligence. David is also a hands-on senior data scientist with over 15 years’ experience developing solutions in the areas of financial crime, telco, cyber, defence & security.
